IPTV On The Move

As talk of web 2.0 continues, we take a look at other mediums hot on it's tail.

IPTV is short for Internet Protocol Television and this is a growth market over the coming years as bandwidth constraints disappear and standard technology improves.

Ovum release figures in October 2006 which suggest the number of subscribers to IPTV worldwide will grow six-fold, with a projected market of 29.5 million in 2010. Although still little competition for other media this growth curve is leading to a dotcom style gold-rush. Channels are being created to cater for every conceivable niche.

Niche content will succeed in audience viewings since most of this will be squeezed out of the broadcast window.

Decipher research has shown that the main usage of the web is still as a research tool, so factual content that is properly tagged has a greater chance of being seen. This leads the way for IPTV niche video content, other than short home-video clips from youtube!

With the lack of advertising deals in this area, how will these niche sites make money. Well most are starting with small charges such as £0.99p to £2.00. However as marketeers take on IPTV, you will see like for like TV style ad streaming.
